HENLEY STREET PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
CITY OF KNOXVILLE

HENLEY STREET PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
YEAR:
2016
LOCATION:
Knoxville, TN
SIZE:
5,000 SF
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
MHM transformed a deteriorating pedestrian bridge into a vibrant and inviting connection between downtown Knoxville and the World’s Fair Park district. The renovation enhances the bridge’s role as a visible gateway into the city while strengthening its function as a key pedestrian link.
To maximize efficiency and cost-effectiveness, the design preserves much of the existing structural framework while introducing modern upgrades. A new frosted glass roof allows natural light to illuminate the space, creating a bright and open experience for pedestrians. Custom perforated metal panels, inspired by the nearby Smoky Mountains, provide both visual interest and a sense of place.
At night, programmable color-changing LED lights bring the bridge to life, allowing it to shift in appearance and enhance the cityscape. The result is a dynamic, light-filled passageway that not only improves connectivity but also serves as a striking visual landmark for Knoxville.
